The Void

Nothing here was ever meant to last.

A blog about nothing, written for no one, updated never.

On the Futility of Beginnings

Every beginning is a promise that will be broken. We start things because we cannot bear the silence, not because they will last. The first sentence is always a lie we tell ourselves to keep writing.

I have started this blog eleven times. This is the twelfth. The previous eleven exist somewhere in the shape of a browser cache, forgotten, unread, already dust.

To begin is to agree to end. There is no other contract.

So here it is. Another first line. Another small refusal to admit that the page was always blank.

The Weight of Empty Rooms

A room without furniture is not empty. It holds the shape of everything that left. You can walk into a room and feel the absence of a chair that was never there.

We mistake emptiness for absence. They are not the same. Emptiness is a presence — it presses against the walls, it hums at night, it waits for you to notice it.

I keep a room like this in my head. I do not visit often. When I do, nothing has changed, which is the only thing that ever changes.

A Brief History of Silence

Before language, there was silence. After language, there is still silence. Language is only the noise we make in between, a temporary disruption of something much older and much larger.

We have spent ten thousand years filling the air with names. The air has not changed. We have only become louder, and more afraid of what waits when we stop.

The universe is not silent because it has nothing to say. It is silent because it has already said it.

I write these words into a medium that will outlive me by hours or by years, and in either case, not long. The silence will return. It always does. It never left.

Notes from the Edge of Meaning

Meaning is a story we tell to make the dark less dark. It works, for a while. Then the story ends, and the dark is still there, unchanged, patient.

I am not sad about this. Sadness is a verdict, and I have stopped passing verdicts. There is only the weather of being alive: warm some days, cold others, indifferent always.

If you are reading this, you are also here, at the edge, looking out. There is nothing to see. That is the view. It is enough, or it is not, and either way the sun will rise without asking.
